Only in Massachusetts
This afternoon I was breezing down the interstate at a chipper 75 M.P.H., just keeping up with traffic, when I glanced in the rear-view mirror and saw a cop. He was driving calmly along with no apparent intention of turning on lights and siren and signalling me to pull over, but it still made me nervous, since the last sign I saw said 65. So I moved over quietly into the next lane and he cruised past me. As he did so, I sped past another speed limit sign and noticed the numbers: 55.
Somehow I felt better with the cop in the vanguard. He drove on, gaining slightly on me until he was lost in the distance. A few minutes later I saw him again. He had pulled another car over to the side of the road.
I guess it was speeding.
